The Museum
The permanent exhibition is divided into two sections. The first covers coal, including the characteristics of lignite, mining methods, shipping and uses for the product. The second looks at everyday life and focuses on social aspects to give visitors a better understanding of what life was like in a mining village.
Visitors can also go into a miner’s home, a flat in the settlement preserved just as it was in the 1940s. Some 3,500 people lived in Sant Corneli in the 1950s. The mine itself is the most symbolic place and the miners’ train takes visitors inside it to see what working in the galleries was like. Finally visitors can enjoy a stroll around the entire settlement and its sphere of influence. The visit is rounded off by an interesting video about the Alt Berguedà coalfield and the story of 150 years of mining. |
